Electrocardiogram or ECG is a diagnostic test that evaluates the electrical activities of the heart. It is the method of generating an electrocardiogram, a black and white image of the electrical activity of a patient’s heart with electrodes placed firmly on the human skin.

ECG is widely used for evaluating the activity of the coronary arteries and pulse flow. It helps to measure the number of different heart diseases and abnormal heart rhythms.

In electrocardiogram, a technician places the electrodes over the heart. Next, he or she measures the resistance by applying steady pressure to these electrodes.

After this, an ECG reader converts the reading into an ECG signal. The ECG technician then interprets the ECG signal and interprets it according to the symptoms of the patient.

If there are no abnormalities, the technician generates a normal ECG signal. If on the other hand, the technician notices some abnormal readings, he or she notes it down in the notes and asks for your doctor’s advice.

During an electrocardiogram, the technician also notes down the result of the monitoring

  • These results indicate whether blood flow is normal or not
  • The doctor can then analyze these results to determine whether you have some abnormal medical condition
  • In most cases, the doctor will recommend checking the EKG signals in patients with no cardiac disease

Electrodes are usually attached to three parts of the body – the upper, middle, and lower body. The three electrodes are connected to three sets of twelve electrodes each.

Usually, these electrodes are placed in the chest area. Some doctors use transcutaneous electrodes in order to attach them to the skin of their patients. The transcutaneous electrodes are placed directly onto the skin without any complications.

There are several ways by which you can perform an electrocardiogram testing

One of them is by doing a simple test called a pulse oximeter. Just try to think of your pulse as an electrical wave that goes through your body. You can feel your pulse in your abdomen, chest, and extremities.

If you notice that your pulse is faster than 60 beats per minute, then you already know that your heart is beating. If it is not beating, then you should perform an electrocardiogram to be able to check if there is something wrong with your heart.

If you want to know if there is something wrong with your heart, then you may consult your doctor. If the doctor thinks that your heart is functioning properly, then he will direct you to do an electrocardiogram in order to determine your medical condition.

You don’t have to worry if there is something that may interfere with your medical condition when you do an electrocardiogram since the technicians can fix it.

However, you have to make sure that the technician who is monitoring you is well-trained and experienced. You can also ask for the help of your doctor in this regard.

When you do an electrocardiogram, the monitor will detect the differences between the rhythmic vibrations of your heart and your brain. The monitor will send these vibrations to your chest pain specialist, who will use a stethoscope to listen to your heart.

The technician will record all the details in a computerized report

Sometimes, the electrocardiogram is done to determine the cause of shortness of breath. Shortness of breath is known as orthostatic hypotension, which occurs due to insufficient fluid in the legs.

If you feel that you have some pains in your legs, then you can be sure that you are having some orthostatic hypotension. Your doctor will give you some medication, and you can go to the hospital immediately.

An electrocardiogram is very helpful for doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals because it will tell them the exact state of your heart.
