Mediterranean food is the typical traditional dishes and methods of preparing food by the people of the various countries of the region, usually in the form of cuisines.
The term the Mediterranean is taken from the original Italian language. The idea of a Mediterranean diet originates from the work of the Italian cookbook writer Elizabeth David, who wrote A Book of Mediterranean Food.
In her book, she gave recipes from all the countries of the region for the different food groups. The concept of a Mediterranean diet has been further enhanced by other food writers in English and is still promoted today. Foods such as

The important thing about Mediterranean dishes is that they should be made with fresh ingredients and should not be marinated with a lot of oil or butter, and should be prepared with care. A recipe such as fennel and garlic soup can be eaten as-is with lemon or lime juice.
It has the same taste like a traditional Italian dish but without the fat and grease. This type of dish is known as “lemon fennel” It has been proven that when the traditional ingredients are used, the taste is different, but certain things are preserved in the dish and can be changed slightly to get rid of some of the taste of the local ingredients.
It is important to note that certain countries will try to use their own ingredients to add to the taste to ensure that the dish remains the same and that the food is not made in a way that can lead to the local taste being lost.
