Testosterone Treatment For Hypogonadism

Testosterone is a naturally occurring male sex hormone and also anabolic, meaning that it encourages the production of protein, energy, and other metabolic functions. In men, testosterone also plays a major role in the formation of male sexual organs such as the prostate and testes, as well as increasing the size of body fat and muscle mass.

When testosterone levels are low, males often experience erectile dysfunction, reduced sexual desire, and decreased libido. Testosterone deficiency is often caused by reduced production of the pituitary gland’s androgen receptor in older men, or by a genetic condition known as hypogonadism. In both men and women, it can be treated through diet and exercise.

Because testosterone is an anabolic (growth promoting) hormone, it can stimulate muscle growth and metabolism and therefore helps with strength training, building muscle, and weight loss. It also aids in the maintenance of muscle mass and strength. Some people, however, suffer from low levels of testosterone, particularly in women. Some medical conditions may also be responsible for the inability of the body to properly produce testosterone.

Testosterone help increase muscle size, but not to the degree that steroids do

For example, while some research indicates that testosterone can increase muscle mass by as much as 40%, only two studies have found that testosterone actually increases muscle size after weightlifting. Because of this controversy, testosterone therapy is widely used to treat hypogonadism, but the results are mixed. Even so, testosterone has been used successfully as a treatment for this condition in cases where the patient has been unable to produce their own testosterone.

While many men find testosterone therapy to be effective for hypogonadism, some have discovered that it may not work for them at all. This is because the body’s pituitary gland produces less testosterone than is needed by the body, resulting in an imbalanced amount of testosterone and estrogen.

This imbalance can also result in some serious side effects, including

  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Anorexia, and
  • Weight gain. {which may become permanent if the treatment is continued over time

Another drawback to testosterone therapy is that most men report a significant decrease in libido and an increase in hair loss when they stop using it. It has been proven that the best way to maintain healthy levels of testosterone levels is to take an oral testosterone supplement.

Supplements are generally taken once a day in the form of either a pill syrup or gel, depending on the strength and frequency required. Testosterone supplements are available by prescription and by other means, but they are generally not approved by the FDA. Many men have been able to get testosterone through dietary supplements alone, but the absorption rate can be very low.

Even so, a few products are available that are approved by the FDA, though you must talk to your doctor before taking one of these products. One of the leading male enhancement supplements on the market today is named Provillus. Provillus is the most widely used prescription testosterone product available

Other forms of testosterone treatment include

  • Transdermal patches
  • Injections
  • Pills, and
  • Gels

Most of these medications are available without a doctor’s prescription and are available in stores near you

You should always talk to your doctor before starting any type of testosterone treatment, including topical supplements, for the first time. This is because testosterone levels vary greatly from person to person, so it would be dangerous to start with a small dose and then increase it too high in order to increase the level.

Testosterone therapy is usually accompanied by counseling sessions to help you learn about your own body’s production and absorption of testosterone. It is very important to make sure that you are taking the right dosage at the right time. in order to avoid an overdose.

Because testosterone levels tend to fluctuate during adulthood, it would be better if you follow a regular schedule of taking the hormone, rather than trying to guess the correct amount based on your own testosterone level. If you have an active thyroid problem, then you will want to discuss testosterone therapy with your doctor. Hypothyroidism can be treated with testosterone.
