Lasik Procedure

How To Schedule Your First Lasik Procedure

LASIK surgery stands for Laser in Situ Keratomileusis. It is basically an operation for correcting myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism by means of a laser beam. LASIK is an acronym for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis.

The word LASIK is actually coined from the Latin term LAS (Laury), which means “little light”, and keratomileusis, which means “to make, produce, or adjust”.

LASIK surgery, more commonly known as laser vision correction or laser eye surgery, is actually a kind of refractive procedure for the treatment of myopia, hyperopic, and astigmatism, using a laser beam.

LASIK procedures are carried out on an outpatient basis, usually with a local anesthetic, and most people will go home the same day as having the procedure.

In order to perform LASIK surgery, the surgeon makes a very small incision, usually around the edge of the eye socket, and then flattens and lifts the cornea through a flap.

After this, the surgeon then uses a tiny laser beam to reshape the cornea so that the correct distance is taken between the front surface and the back surface of the eye.

Then, a thin flap is lifted over the flap, which is then stitched together, just as it is to close any other eye surgery. After the initial surgery, most patients are given a prescription for a series of glasses, or contact lens, rather than having to wear glasses and lenses right away.

The LASIK procedure is becoming one of the most popular elective surgeries. It allows those with vision problems to have their eyes corrected. The main advantage of this procedure is that it can correct any problems with your vision and also improve your eye alignment.

So if you are considering LASIK surgery, but you are worried about the costs and the risks, then you should take some time to learn more about LASIK tests.

Many people are afraid of the unknown and are reluctant to undergo any sort of surgery

However, with the proper tests, you will be able to learn exactly what your risks are and whether LASIK surgery is right for you. This type of LASIK surgery is done with a particular cutting laser called a refractory laser that only cuts away the thin tissue layers of the cornea.

As the cornea is exposed and reshaped, the amount of pressure on the eye from the healing flap increases, causing the healing process to slow significantly. In addition to smoothing out the surface of the eye, this type of procedure also allows for more natural-looking vision.

There are two different types of LASIK surgery

  • A “dry” procedure in which only the dry tissue is cut away,
  • A “wet” procedure in which wet tissue is also removed.

When you are making a decision on this very important procedure, you need to take all the factors into consideration. These tests are done by numerous doctors and will determine whether laser surgery is right for you or not.

One of the most common tests done after LASIK is refraction testing

This test measures your vision in a nearsighted state, farsighted state, and astigmatism state. After having the surgery, the doctor will use a device to measure the change in your vision. Your eyes will be examined in both of these light conditions.

This test helps the Lasik surgeon decide if you are a good candidate for LASIK. If you do not pass the refraction tests, then you may not be a good candidate for LASIK. Some basic procedures require that you wear glasses or contact lenses in order to see well.

If your vision in these light conditions is not optimal, then you will not benefit from laser eye surgery. Some LASIK surgeons will not even perform a basic eye exam if you do not meet their requirements. For these reasons, it is important to thoroughly discuss your requirements with your eye doctor before you undergo a LASIK procedure.

When performing the tests, your doctor will place a speculum or microkeratome right inside your eye. The purpose of this device is to create a small impression of your cornea so they can perform an accurate lasik procedure.

The device will be inserted into your eye. Once the device is in place, your doctor will gently rotate your eye in order to get a good view of your cornea. If your vision is not optimal, then you will not benefit from LASIK.

In addition to the eye exams, your doctor will also perform a computerized tomography scan of your cornea. This test will help your surgeon know if the corneal tissue is suitable for a lasik surgery. It will also help them determine how strong your existing eye prescription is.

If your vision is not optimal, then you may need additional LASIK laser treatments to improve your vision. Computerized tomography tests and eye examinations are often combined to determine your eligibility for LASIK.

Your eye doctors will perform several basic procedures during your initial consultation

These initial tests are used to assess your refractive errors, and to establish a baseline for you to work with during your Lasik procedures. You will not know which LASIK procedure will work best for your vision; however, they will provide you with a list of basic options.

Some basic procedures will require a smaller cornea, while others will require a much larger cornea. Your choice will be dependent on your current vision as well as your desired results.

Once you and your doctor have determined that you are eligible for LASIK laser treatments, then you can schedule your first LASIK procedure. Keep in mind that you will have to make several adjustments to your lifestyle in order to make this vision correction procedure work for you.

As you adjust to LASIK procedures and return to your normal daily activities, remember to take care of yourself properly in order to maintain the best results possible. Many people find that their eyes heal quickly and do not require the extra care that may be required by some more stubborn patients.
