The French toast recipe is simple and yet people can’t seem to get it right. Some recipes are better than others but it’s really down to personal preference. You need to have the right ingredients and preparation for this traditional breakfast.
The first thing that you need to know is what ingredients the recipe calls for and how to prepare them. Some recipes call for eggs but some call for bread crumbs. There’s no need to go on about it but if you’re not sure, then just ask.
Once you’ve found the right recipe and the ingredients, it’s just a case of getting down to work and preparing the toast. It doesn’t have to be difficult to make but you do need to follow a few guidelines.
Firstly, make sure you use the correct butter
It should be light and fluffy rather than runny or sticky. If you’re using butter from the shop then don’t worry. You can get the exact amount in the store, but if you want to try and save money then go for the pre-made version.
Next, check the recipe calls for an egg. If it does then you’ll need to add that to your recipe. If it doesn’t then just skip it. You can always use one of the alternatives if it doesn’t fit.
Finally, once you’ve got the butter, egg, breadcrumbs and maybe even some sugar, try cooking the mix. It’s best to cook the mixture in a pan as it’s easier to get an even coating. However, if you want it nice and fluffy then cook it in the oven.
After about an hour to an hour and a half, just give it a taste test. You don’t want to ruin the recipe so make sure you get as much as you can before you start on yours. If you can’t get the right one then try making your own but the basic ones will do.

Now that you know how to make it you can move onto the garnishes! I like to sprinkle some nutmeg over it before I top it with some jam, a couple of sliced bananas or whatever. For a change though you could also make apricots and put a dash of honey over them for an extra special touch.
As well as using nuts, berries are another great idea for a garnish. I’ve had strawberries mixed with apricot preserves before. and they were wonderful. I prefer to use fruit such as pears, apples and bananas but you can experiment.
If you’re going to serve it to a baby, it might be a good idea to give them a taste first. You don’t have to give them the whole thing as they can’t really tell what it tastes like but if you really want to they will enjoy it.

As far as toppings go you can use any fruits, nuts and meats. Don’t forget to decorate the dish too! You don’t have to spend a fortune but if you’re going for the traditional look and feel then it’s worth the effort. You can even decorate the plates and cutlery yourself and make your own unique twist.
It looks very appealing and you’ll see it’s very practical too! Once you’ve made them all then all you need is a bread machine. Just get some white bread dough into the machine and put in some jam and berries.
When you take them out of the machine after an hour or so, it’s now ready to serve. The best way to eat them is to warm them up on the table in the pan for a few minutes until they’re nice and warm and then serve.
